How are you paying for all of this traveling?
I get asked this question all the time. It's understandable, though, because everyone wants to know the secret of how one can be on a permanent vacation. Here's how I've done it so far: first of all, I was lucky enough to have my parents pay for my college and it was inexpensive, thanks to NC taxpayers, so I didn't have any student loans. Then, I worked in DC for a couple of years, and lived cheaply. I didn't buy gadgets like I do now. I lived in a cheap apartment (in a sketch neighborhood). I didn't go out all the time and I saved half of the money I brought home. Now, that money isn't going to last much longer, but I'm supplementing it with some website design. Feel free to donate. ;)
What are you running away from?
I'm recently out of a long relationship. I've just finished a Master's degree, and I'm not ready to start back at a 9-5 job, yet. I'd rather not think about it as running away from anything, but running toward adventure and excitement, but who am I kidding with that?
How old are you?
26
Are you romantically involved?
Yes, romantically involved and loving every minute of it.
What books do you recommend reading?
I loved Jose Saramago's Blindness. It's been a couple of years since I read it, but it sticks in my head as a good read. Dandelion Wine, by Ray Bradbury is another great one. I didn't want She's Come Undone to end. In the non-fiction department, I read Guns, Germs and Steel, but it gets so repetitive that it's probably ok to just read every other chapter. On the feminist front, I recommend Woman, and The Frailty Myth. I could come up with more, but that probably deserves its own page. This will do for now.
I'll add links to these books, but in the meantime you can Google them.
How about movies....what are your favorites?
I love the movies, but something happens to my brain while I'm watching. I am so focused (if the film is good) that I lose myself a little, and then I have trouble remembering what happened. It's great because I can see movies over and over and still be surprised by them, but it's not so great, because someone will ask me, "did you see ______?" and if I'm lucky enough to remember that I have indeed seen it, I'm still unlikely to remember whatever it is to which they are referring. My favorites, though? The original Star Wars trilogy, A.I., the Piano, Swingers, Pulp Fiction, James Bond, Back to the Future, Lost in Translation, Indiana Jones, Fight Club. This certainly isn't a comprehensive list, but it's some that I've liked for various reasons. Usually my favorite movie is the one I've seen most recently.
If I was buying you a present, what would you want?
My car needs a new stereo and speakers, Sugar Daddy. Otherwise, I'm always happy to get mix CD's of your favorite music.
How did you get that scar on your lip?
I was bitten in the face by a dog recently (January 2004)
Do you have any tattoos or interesting piercings?
Nope. My ears are pierced, and I attempted to pierce my belly button myself when I was 14, but that was not the smartest idea I've ever had. I've considered getting a tattoo for a long time, but I've never been able to decide on a design I'd want to live with forever.
How many people have you slept with?
what?
what do you do?
Haven't you been paying attention? I travel. I take the advice of a good friend who said, "why worry? when you run out of money, you can just make more."
where have you been?
Norway. England. Wales. Scotland. Ireland (Dublin). Spain (Barcelona, Mallorca). France (Paris). I've got a rough goal to get to all of the contiguous states this year. Here's where I've been so far this year:
